Rev. Donald R. August, Sr.
Born the first son of Sister Brenda August Jackson, Rev. Donald R. August, Sr. was born in the small town of Belle Rose, La. The family moved to Laplace in 1964 where Rev. August was raised and educated. In the public school system of St. John parish he became well-acquainted with the integration process of Louisiana schools in the early 1960''s.
As a child, Rev. August experienced serious illness. In 1967 he spent 9 months in Charity Hospital of New Orleans with a serious kidney ailment. After losing one kidney and almost losing the other, doctors did not give a promising outlook... stating that his chances of survival to the age of 21 were very slim. By the grace of God, our pastor was able to recover from such a close brush with death and grow into the man that he is today.
Pastor August graduated from Leon Godchaux High School in Reserve in the year of 1976 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana.
On March 26, 1983 Pastor August was united in marriage to our First Lady, Sister Roberta Zeno August. First Lady August, a graduate of Nicholls State University and LSU, is a great niece of our founder, Rev. Hosea A. Zeno. On October 20, 1995 they were blessed with a beautiful son, Donald Ray August, Jr. "DRA", who we love dearly.
Having been called to the work of the Lord in March 1984, for 10 years they traveled faithfully from their home in Lafayette, La. to attend services at their home church, Rising Star. The Word of God reminds us that "HE is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."
In October 1994, Min. Donald R. August was ordained and installed as pastor of Rising Star where he faithfully serves today.
The Bible says "many are called, but few are chosen." We believe that we have a chosen Man of God in Pastor August. With a spirit of humility, humbleness and strength, he faces the challenge of leading God''s people with a vision to glorify God through all things. All this while acknowledging that "serving God will pay off afterwhile."
Truly we are blessed to have such a great leader and ask you to keep him lifted up in prayer with us as we strive to do the work of the kingdom as we''re walking up the King''s Highway, trying to proclaim to this world that "JESUS IS LORD!"
